Lithuania Student TRP (Temporary Residence Permit) Process – Complete Guide

🌍 What is a TRP?

A Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) in Lithuania allows a non-EU/EEA student to live and study legally in the country for the duration of their studies. While the Type D (National Student Visa) is usually issued for entry and initial stay (up to 1 year), the TRP extends your stay for the entire academic program (up to 2 years, renewable).

🪪 Step-by-Step Process for TRP Application

STEP 1: Enter Lithuania with a Student TRP

Earlier, students had to enter Lithuania on a Type D visa and then apply for their Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) after arrival. However, under the updated migration policy, students can now apply for the TRP directly from their home country, including India.

The new system allows students to submit their TRP application and biometrics through the VFS Global centers in India, ensuring a smoother and faster transition to university life. This change has made the entire Lithuania study visa process more convenient, transparent, and student-friendly.

STEP 2: Prepare the Required Documents

Once you arrive in Lithuania, you’ll need to prepare the following documents for your TRP application:

📁 Documents Required

1. Valid Passport
   • Must be valid for the entire TRP period.
2. Completed TRP Application Form
   • Available online through the Lithuanian Migration Department (MIGRIS system).
3. Letter of Acceptance from your Lithuanian university/college.
4. Proof of Financial Means
   • Original bank certificate and bank statement showing movements in the last three months, duly stamped and signed by the bank, every applicant has to submit original bank account statement of his own/ of his sponsor.
   • Indian income tax return acknowledgment for the last three assessment years;
   • In addition: If the applicant is sponsored:
   • • Statements of sponsor for the last three months;
   • • Affidavit of sponsorship
5. Health Insurance
   • Must cover your stay in Lithuania (minimum coverage €30,000).
6. Accommodation Proof
   • Dormitory confirmation or rental agreement in Lithuania.
7. Proof of Tuition Fee Payment
   • Receipt or confirmation from the university.
8. Passport-size Photo (recent and as per official specs).
9. Tuition Fee Payment Proof
10. Additional Documents- CV, Covering Letter, Motivation Letter, Mediation Number Mail copy from university, Travel Reservation, Apostilled Educational Docs and PCC. If any gap , justification proof for the same need to be submitted

STEP 3: Submit Application via MIGRIS

• Register on the MIGRIS portal
• Fill out the Temporary Residence Permit Application online.
• Upload all the documents as per the checklist
• Print and sign the form, then bring all documents to the appointment.

STEP 4: Biometric Submission & Interview

• Visit the Migration Department office on the scheduled date.
• Provide biometric data (fingerprints, digital photo, and signature) and submit all the documents as per checklist.
• After submission, within one week you will receive notification on virtual interview from embassy. Once you attend the interview it can take up to 30- 40 days to know the visa result

STEP 5: Application Review

• The Migration Department verifies all documents and may contact your university for confirmation.
• Total Processing Time:45-60 days

STEP 6: TRP Collection

• Once approved, you’ll receive a TRP card

🎓 You must carry this TRP card at all times in Lithuania as proof of legal residence.
